The MCPs rose to the challenge of outdoor engagement in strong winds this week by making snowman soup and having a game of children’s rights tig to stay warm. We sheltered in the Coconut Hut to link online with one of our MCPs, who was learning from home this week. We discussed the results of our online school survey, to gather the views of our classmates, and voted on which of the emerging themes we wanted to include in the computer game we are developing, to help professionals improve their children’s rights practice. We all agreed that adults treating us as equals was the most important theme for us, as we thought that all the others follow on from that. Then we drew characters for the game and scripted scenarios based on our agreed themes. In the second half of the session, we made origami doves decorated inside with our children’s rights calls to action. The doves will be flown as part of Michael Pendry’s Les Colombes installation at St Giles Cathedral to raise our hopes for the future and show the power of community. We also had a windfall treasure hunt and made characters with the nature we found, turning the gusty wind to our advantage.
