Interviewing our MP

This week the East Lothian MCPs interviewed MP and former Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill. We had a great chat with Kenny about children’s rights and about his own childhood. We asked Kenny to decorate some little “Houses of Parliament” and we told him about our Dignometers, which measure things that make us feel respected. As we are conducting our interviews outside, to comply with local Covid mitigation, we all had to wrap up as the temperature was zero degrees! We asked Kenny about how we could get the streetlights in the park switched on a little earlier and told him that our classmates would like more zebra crossings in Haddington. After our interview we went for a walk to find the streetlights and drafted a letter to East Lothian Council to ask if they could be switched on earlier. Thanks to Kenny for being such a great interviewee and for telling us all about the human rights defenders who inspired him to become the Justice Secretary.
