Children's Parliament Investigates...

Politics, Puppets and Power

This week we learned that the original Parliament of Scotland was called the Estates of Scotland and existed from the early 13th century until 1707, when it merged with England and became the Parliament of Great Britain. Scottish MPs then had to travel to Westminster in London. People have the power to vote MPs into Parliament and they must represent our views. We learned that in 1997 there was a referendum where the Scottish people voted to have their own Scottish Parliament again. It started up for the second time in 1999. We prepared for our own local MP interview next week by role playing with our cloth puppets and by sketching some of the other professionals that we are going to interview. On our walk this week we went on a nature forage and then investigated all the “treasure” we’d found really closely and thought about how we can now really investigate our themes and the adults that we are going to interview next month.
